Hello Colleagues! I would like to introduce you to the TEACH program. Many of you have already completed the QUIT program through CPhA or the PACT program (Sask) which is similar…but if you are looking for a bit more training ….here is one for you to consider as well!
The TEACH (Training Enhancement in Applied Cessation Counseling and Health) project is geared towards training individual health care professionals in the public, private and non-profit sectors who provide counseling services to people who use tobacco. The obvious goal is assist people further in the QUIT process and the program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills in the delivery of intensive tobacco cessation interventions. I was able to take the program over a period of 7 days. This included a 3 day ‘core course’ and a specialty 2 day course on ‘mental health and addictive disorders’. There are a variety of specialty courses to choose from. The course may be offered in Toronto, but I happened to go to Sudbury, ON for mine. There is also a requirement to take 3 online modules ahead of time. These are done through the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit (OTRU). It was a complete eye-opener for me and definitely worth my while!
The brochure provides an overview of the TEACH project, for those that may be interested, and a link is provided below. Any questions, I would love to share more!
